Rough diamond: seeing the potential

With a rough diamond, the aim is the largest clean, well-proportioned polished stone, keeping as much valuable weight as possible. Every plan starts with the individual stone: its inclusions, shape and character. Sometimes material has to be removed to reach a better finished diamond.

Cutting and polishing: precision in every decision

From the outline to the final polish, each choice affects the next: the shape, the proportions, the facets, the symmetry. We keep all of them in view so the finished stone performs as well as the rough allows.

Recutting, repolishing and repair

A polished diamond can be chipped, scratched or abraded. Depending on the stone and the damage, specialist recutting or repolishing may improve it. Correcting a flaw can mean removing material, so some carat weight may be lost. We assess each stone first and explain what is realistic.

Services

01

Rough diamond cutting

Planning and cutting rough stones for the largest clean, well-proportioned polished diamond each one can give.

02

Diamond recutting

Restoring polished stones with chipped edges, damaged facets or weak proportions. Material is removed with care, and some carat weight may be lost.

03

Diamond repolishing

Renewing worn or scratched surfaces and facet edges so the stone regains its finish.

04

Damage correction

Each case is assessed first. The right approach depends on the stone and the damage, and we explain what is realistic.

Describe your stone and we will tell you what is possible →

Process

From rough stone to finished diamond.

Assess

Under magnification we study the shape, inclusions and any damage, then plan the result.

Cut

The outline and proportions are established. Material removed here cannot be returned.

Polish

Facets are finished and refined for symmetry and surface quality.

Inspect

The result is checked against the plan before the stone is returned.

Recutting and repolishing follow the same path: assess the stone, decide what the damage allows, then correct it with as little loss as possible.
